If you are in the area on a Sunday evening, stop by the Lard Yai Market on Thalang Road. The street comes alive with vendors of all sorts to satisfy foodies and shoppers alike, as well as live entertainment. For an everyday walking street vibe, you can make your way to the Oasis Thalang market in an alley that connects Dibuk Road to Thalang Road.
Beautiful Views from Big Buddha
Buddhism is the main religion of Thailand and it plays a big part in Thai society. You could be satisfied with seeing Big Buddha from anywhere around the Karon area of Phuket. You can get a glim of its beauty from the ground since it is 45 meters of marble situated on top of a peak with an elevation of about 400 meters. There is a road you can drive up to the Big Buddha’s temple, or you can opt for an invigorating one-hour hike up the mountain. It is no longer just a bastion of go-go bars, there are also pulsing dance clubs, live music venues, and restaurants with cuisines from all around the world. Not necessarily kid-friendly, but there is a lot going on after sunset at this adult playground.
Cool off at the Waterfalls of Khao Phra Thaeo
While the warm sands and cool beaches of Phuket are its main attractions, there are also diverse ecosystems further inland on the island. Khao Phra Thaeo is the island’s greatest evergreen rainforest, located well inland from the northeast coast. You can start off with a cooling visit to the Ton Sai Waterfall near the park’s entrance, then take the four-kilometre trail to Bang Pae Waterfall for another refreshing stop. Along the way, you would see many birds and reptile creatures, such as red-legged crakes and box turtles. And while the langurs, civets, and other larger mammals tend to stay away from the trails, there is a gibbon rehabilitation centre you can visit near Bang Pae Waterfall.
